User Defined DataTypes

Hi,

IS it Possible to change the DataType or Width of the User Defined Data Types which are already refered in many tables which have many rows of data?

What might be the Pros & Cons ?

I think it is not possible until that user defined data type is not referenced anywhere in the database.
