WebCam Project

Hi everybody ,I've been given a project which receive images from a webcam on the white plane and count the number of black balls on the white plane and find the position of the balls on the plane.First it receives images from web cam and transform them into a 8 bit greyscale mode and apply several image processing filters on the image(Edge detection,Threshold,Low Pass and High Pass Filters).How can I do it and which webcam should I use?

Note:I must use Visual C++ 6.0
