Hi

I will discuss job offer with a game company soon. Please post how much I should bargain for.

-job title: port engineer (j2me, Brew phone games)
-at San Francisco

Me:
-fresh out of college
-I think they hired me because I made an impressive 3D engine in Java. But because '3d engine programmer' pays more than people who ports, they will still offer the job to me as a port engineer.
-If there is info on '3d engine programmer' for phones please provide it.

thnx!

Well, thats a hard question, that depends that what is the common salary range for that sort of work in your area/city/country. Keep in mind that every company has certain amount that it can pay, if you exceed from that amount, then you'll not be the most favourable person (and the company says, stay where you are, we are pretty happy without you ;) ) , may be at some other part of the world, you can get much more money for the same job, but this doesn't mean that you ask too less.

So, the bottom line is, Salary = average salary range of your area + 5% to 10% (just in case of bargaining). Wish you good luck :thumb:

Just take what they offer you, dont be greedy, its the first 2 or 3 years experience that counts. After that, you can name your price ;) Whatever you do, dont knock the offer back on grounds of monetary issues.
