Hi,

I want to know if MSDOS can be used for networking and if yes, then, how effective it is. I came across Ethernet drivers like NDIS2 and ODI for DOS which means that DOS can be used for networking but practially speaking i have never heard of DOS based networking. Can someone help me out with this doubt?

Also, I need to have an operating system for a Voice Logger which will be transfering the recorded files across an Ethernet network. Which Networking Operating System would be best in this case.

Thanks and regards,
Gunjan

Hi there,

DOS was used for networking and is still used today.

Some network protocols supported then/now were:
NOVELL using SPX/IPX
IBM using mmm.. forgot LanMan, NetBUI, NetBIOS ?

Anyway, are you looking for "old" DOS support or for the newer (extended)DOS protocols ?

There is freeware (GNU type) Network protocols with source etc. available, I even saw a TCP/IP stack that can be used with uCOS-II.

cheers

Thanks for the reply.

I am looking for the new extended version of DOS(extended DOS protocols). Is it popular?

Thanks and regards,
Gunjan
