Maybe is better if you buy a book?
Or if you are not new to programming you can find a guide in internet (google?).

The best place to start in my opinion is

Good for beginners. From there I think you might want to learn win32 api's, If you have linux then you are in a fork, I forgot the two names of way's you can code for linux, one is meant for KDE and another for Gnome.
