hi,

recently, i have been trying to install mysql on linux, but have faced some difficulties... there is error when i tried to install by using

1) make
2) make install


secondly, i cant find mysql.sock file. any idea where i can get it?

thirdly, do i have to download mysql server.rpm? as i had only download mysql in tar.gz form

If you're on redhat, debian, or any other distrobution that supports packages (i.e. rpm's, deb's, or whatnot) you should probably go that route to install them. That will save a lot of headaches in getting the dependencies resolved.
