Minimal Direct3D surface

Umm, my question is, is it possible to create a direct3D surface in a normal window with sizes around 200px x 50px ? I know, sounds stupid, but until now I didn't get far into Direct3D ( just bumped off the surface ;) )... And can I control this window then like any other control ?

As far as I know, it could be 1x1 pixels if you want. I don't remember there being any minimum limit on the size.
