I cannot access http://localhost

I have IIS 5.0 installed in my computer. I have checked to ensure that the default web site is running perfectly fine. But when I access using http://localhost I gives me the following error

The page cannot be displayed
There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.

I get the above error for any foder that I am trying to access for eg. http://localhost/IISADMIN. It seems that the IIS is not working properly. where should I start to fix the problem.

R u sure u have IIS installed.
Start Run type inetmgr

Look at the WWW service whether its running or not?

BTW whats ur OS?
