Recently, every time I boot up my Internet Explorer 6.0 I get the following home page:
E://WINNT/hp.htm
This is a sort of search menu, but there is no company or organization name associated with it -- and I did not set it there. I have tried on numerous occasions to change my home page using Tools/Internet Options/Home Page back to my old home page, but to no avail.
First, I tried to delete all the cookes and history, but that didnt work. Next, I tried to delete the file from my hard disk, but it appeared again. In anger, I tried to examine the source in the Explorer (View/Source). It turns out to be written in some JScript, but in a coded format that may or may not be binary.
Next, I erased all of the code between the <JScript Language> tags, so that it's just blank. Now, whenever I boot up my Internet Explorer, I still get the same hp.htm but the page is blank.
This is some sort of insidious script that has captured my Internet Explorer. I would like to get rid of it, but cant figure out how.
Has anyone else seen this odd script ? How does it work ? How can I get rid of it ?
Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
Mike
