Forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
Is/has MS dropped VC 6.0 for it's new .Net stuff?

I noticed that looking to purchase VC++ 6.0 there are limited (1 or 2) carrying it, and hardly any carry the standard version.
Problem: I am learning C++ using a limited version that came with a book. When I learn enough I hope to upgrade but don't know which direction to go. VC 6.0 is expensive compared to the new .Net. but I understand the .Net is interpretive and requires the underlying support.

Please, I am not trying to start any flaming between VC 6.0 and .Net. I am just trying to determine if I should spend all that money on VC 6.0 standard/pro versions.
