Hi,,
I use Win2000 Adv. Server (trial version)
each time windows starts I get a message box like :
One or more services could not run .. check Event viewer..
how can i prevent this message from appearing ? (even without fixing the problem that causes it)

try disabling the messanger service (control panel->services)
Fix the problem that's failing in the event log :)

sorry but how did Mick_2002 come to conclude that the messenger service was the fault here. But he may be trying to tell youthat there are a few services that can be disabled and one of them is the messenger service.
you could go throught a process of elimination to see which is the fault. Type MSCONFIG -5 in your run box(start-run) and disable services like messenger, auto... updates, upload manager, themes, indexing services, smart card, etc etc from starting up.
If you looked in your event log you could find out which service is causing the problem, thatway you could know the service and the cause and attempt to troubleshoot.

The messenger service is used for notification, and there are API's to do just that, such as when a service fails and calling NetAlertRaise(...)
My comments were not about the offending service, but the offending message box, as it's clearly not stated which service is causing the problem, but I clearly state that they need to locate the service via the eventlog and correct the problem.
hmm guess it's clear now huh?

Try looking in the event log! That is the first place you should check! It will hopefully tell you what the problem is. If you disable the messenger service you will lose other functionality which is useful.

Notification that a service didn't start for one!
