I'd love to say I've gone to the land abundant with eager young women but I have not. Actually I was just testing to see what character would appear if I use the code for the escape character (''). Nothing useful shows.

While I am here, I am interested in knowing about any sites useful for entering a longitude and lattitude and getting a map showing the area. You are someone that is likely to have some suggestions.

I know about Map-It: Form-based Simple Map Generator (http://stellwagen.er.usgs.gov/mapit) but it is difficult to use and is not a good map. I have also found Search TerraServer Using Geographic Coordinates (http://terraserver-usa.com/geographic.aspx) and I am trying it now.

Okay, I am confused. Is longitude east-west or north-south?

Longitude lines run north-south and measure west-east.
Latitude lines run west-east and measure north-south.
Confusing?

It is confusing only because andy_tacker uses "N" for longitude and "E" for latitude. That might be standard but the USGS is using east-west for longitude and north-south for latitude. So if this all does have a logical explanation then I should be able to figure it out but at the moment I am not sure whether a north longitude is converted to east or west and whether an east latitude should be converted to north or south.

Actually, I assumed that andy_tacker made a mistake. If that is the case then you missed seeing it, right? I would not have asked the question here except my intent was to provide a hint as gently as possible.

N and S should be for latitude. A sample location would be
50deg.30'30" N latitude, 100deg.30'30" E longitude (which turns out to be somewhere in Mongolia).

wow! exactly! :o
holy mistake ;)
missed Lon with Lat :D
thanks for pointing it out Sammy.

well, regarding that land abundant with eager young women . I would have been trying it all the time :p

Basically, I am working on a Vehicle surveillance and monitoring using GSM and GPRS. so, i got those Lats and Lons in the profile ;)

right Solar!
Lats go N-S
Lons go E-W

your representation of Lats and Lons is called DD.MM.MMMM
Mine shows DDMM.MMMM
basically,
5550.40232283862 N
3739.80514306582 E
is my Home
