Editing a scaned drawing

Hi all,
I have a scanned drawing for a mechanical componet which I want to edit i.e. put new text, objects and delete some.
Which programs should I use to do that? Does word
has this possibility, in that case how?

There are many excellent graphics editors available. I use Adobe Photoshop (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/main.html).

Even MS paint brush can do it! but photoshop does it better...

but you can't just remove a gare and add a piston....The scanned images and texts are nothing more than pictures...like the ones in paint brush...

There are apps that can convert scanned texts into texts...but with a **** lot of mistakes...
