Hello,

I want to start a programming project (in Java or C++) and as the documentation is crucial, I'd like to use a software like ClearCase with which I can control different versions of a file, e.g. checking in and out, merge, etc.

Is there a free software for Windows which can do that? Perhaps one that doesn't need expert knowledge in administration? How easy is CVS to use?

Thanks for your answers, Robert :)

You may want to take a look at RCS (http://www.gnu.org/software/rcs/rcs.html). There used to be a Windows GUI front-end to RCS (called W-RCS), but it seems unavailable now (you may try googling for it).

On another note, WinCVS is a free win32 GUI front-end for CVS. Gives a very flexible (well, some people rather dislike it...) interface for managing CVS.

The back end of CVS for windows is called "CVSNT" is not meant for win 95/98...

CVSNT and WIN CVS is a complete solution....runs on local mechine as well as the networks...
