blocked from IM Win2000 Server

Ok at work I can not ftp or use Instant Messager. Now I have no exp with windows server. We are using Windows 2000
It is blocked somehow. I have no clue how to open the ports needed.

I have access to the server as long as I can prove I know what I am doing. Since I dont I cant change this

Can anyone help?

Fire walls sometimes prove a blockage...I am sure you must have tried to lower it....

But blockage can also occur if other application are trying to use the same port...
