Platfrom independant?

Is it possible to run a .NET application(developed on Windows environment) on UNIX. Is there any platform independancy?

In the theory, yes it is...

However, .net framework has to be ported to that unix too.

I don't know about the active projects of porting .net framework to any unix. MS wants to port .net for linux and for mac os. There are running projects, however they are just in beta version...

In the future, yoy will be able to run .net application on other platforms too. However, it is impossible today...
