Case Study : Open-source Hangman game by Xeon the cute boy

While it's widely known that I'm the cutest guy ever, there's no real need to debate about it.

Anyway, let's finish up our chicken chops and finish enjoying the gurls and read below.

I've created a hangman game for my accursed school project.
A very basic hangman game with complete images and source code provided.

I developed this basic program using the fantastic CButtonST from the mighty Davide Calabro, and the skins part is from Joerg, I think.(a skinning article in Codeguru)
My development machine is Windows 98 with a pathetic 300 MHz processor and 32 MB of RAM.(maybe I gotta start a thread called "Slowest and most pathetic machines"

Now : it would be darn cool if you can play around with the game and see if there's any bugs whatsoever.
U see, I don't wanna embarrase myself in front of everyone while demostrating the program. I've already tested it, but more testing couldn't hurt. Besides, real men have real hard skins, that's why. Gurls tend to like men with hard skin, and that's the point.
And no no.......there's no need to use torture/bondage tools whatsoever in this case to test, stress-test, torture-test, ****-test or perverse-test the program, cos' I don't wanna waste too much time on such a sucky thing. :cool:

Hi there Krishnaa! Haven't you played Hangman before?
It's basically a classic game of the past! :)

Well, when the program starts up, there's a row of alphabets at the bottom.(A to Z)

In the middle of the program, there's a "mysterious" word to fill in. U're suppose to guess which alphabets the word has in it.

So, for example, u get :

_ _ _ _ _ _ _

And then, u might say, "Hmmm.....maybe this mysterious word has the alphabet 'E' in it".

Thus, u click 'E' on the row of buttons at the bottom of the program.

If the alphabet 'E' is in this mysterious word, 'E' will be printed among the lines. If 'E' doesn't exist, a line will be drawn on the right of the program.

If you keep getting wrong, a "human" will be getting close and closer to death by hanging.

Just run the program and click any buttons on the bottom of the program.
If you keep getting wrong, you'll see a figure of a hanged man on the right.

If you can managed to complete the entire mysterious word without getting the man hanged, you win the current round. :):D

Basically, it's something like America's Wheel of Fortune TV show : u fill in the blanks and try to win without getting the man hanged to death.(in this case)

You forgot an exit button!!!
It took me a while to find out you can only exit by loosing the game. I had to do CTRL + ALT + DEL a couple times.

hmmm, looks very nice

a couple of weird things though:
* the solution shows up in the taskbar !!! (i don't know if this is a bug or a feature)
* other hangman games i've seen start with rope, head, body, arm, arm, leg, leg that way everything is always connected, and doesn't seem floating around in thin air

some additional tips for distribution or testing by your proffessors :
* make it statically linked, this way it will always work on any computer (don't know if this is still an issue nowadays)
* create a nice icon

and as requested maybe some functionality to close it would be nice :D

Yes, yes. That's because your system has been infected by a virus called XeonXP. Basically, this virus makes your life total ****.

Ha ha ha! :D No no.....actually, this bug occurs because your OS fonts has been set to Large fonts. The skinning code I got from Codeguru didn't deal with this possibility, that's why. I'm gonna get the new version from the author, though.

The others(like Simon666 and Yves M) didn't get this problem cos' their system's font is set to Small fonts.

This only happens on your system, Simon. There's a hidden piece of code somewhere that goes :

This is basically for testing/debugging purposes. If you look at the code provided, a call is made to "SetWindowText(m_strCurrentWord)". That's why! :D

Hmmm......nice suggestion. Actually, the seqeunce in which the hanged man appear in my program is copied from a web-based hangman game for kids. But it's darn easy to achieve what you said!

Ego-hamohagic fever is a serious kinda fever whereby someone praises you and you feel shy. Then , your feel darn happy and think about it all day(every second) on how great, darn wonderful and noble you're!
Then, u fall sick cos' u don't have the appetite to eat or sleep, or enjoy gurls. Then, your health starts to fall, and you start getting orange spots with liquid in it on your body. Your kidney area starts to swell and there's blood in your execretion. The middle of your head starts to lose hair and you suffer from red eyes and severe cold. Before you die horribly, your chest starts getting shaky as if it can be ripped apart by 1 single soft touch.

It has been proven that if you wanna cure yourself of this horrible sickness, suck up to others.

So, if I get this sickness, I must find someone to suck up to.(and Simon666 will be the last!) :D

Now it is sometimes not easy to quickly find out which letter your mouse is hovering over and those keys would allow you to play it faster.

I think you should also implement some kind of "memory" in the program, so that it remembers not to give you twice in a row the same word. I guess that would be less frequent when you have more words but still might be worth a thought.

I did this project cos' I have to, not cos' I wanna. As I've said before, I would rather spend my time doing something more constructive than to create this kinda darn game which makes me sleep. ;)
