Now, for those who're not anti-Xeon or anything, I just wanna take this precious few seconds to say that I'll not be around in this forum for another 17 -18 days or so.(won't be back till 1st November)
So, pals......do take care and see you! I miss you folks! Till then!

Well, in case you guys didn't notice, I haven't been posting at all since 5 - 6 days ago. That's cos' I was banned, but due to some overall Internet problems and Brad's kind heart, I was allowed in for a few seconds once in a blue moon.
But Brad the good saint un-banned me again after all these centuries of suffering in the Abyss, so good old Xeon is back again!

No way are you gonna get me with that trick! That sniper's still on the lose, is he not? Death toll: 9 so far, 2 critically injured... that's in two weeks or something, and I'm sure he's still loaded up on ammo!

Sniper....I live in maryland, use to live down in bowie and pass that school on the way to work. Since I don't own a gun anymore (and yea I would carry it if I still had it even if it is illegal) I'm tending to do alot more looking around right now. And hit the full service gas station by my house so I don't have to get out. Luckly I live in the sticks, but I do commute to work in Columbia. This guy or guys are going to wind up going out in a blaze of glory, because 1. The feds will execute him (crossing state lines) 2. Maryland will execute him. 3. Virginia will execute him. All in all what's he got to lose.

Having a gun is the first thing. It's so easy in the USA. And when you have a gun, after having a bad day (you lost your job and your wife the same day) and being a little sensitive, then you just decide that using your gun could be a good way to release your stress.
I don't think american people are much worse than other about this, except that so many people have a gun that it gives much, much more risk that when some one goes crazy he has a gun to use.
The fact that a lot of people have guns doesn't make the place safer, it makes it more dangerous. I don't think a lot of people will be refrain the idea of attacking you or robbing your house by fear that you have a gun. On the other hand, when there's a gun, there's a chance that some one use it.
I'm glad it's much more difficult and rare to have a gun in Europe than it is in USA.

Another thing. People like to shoot other people, ...
Why do you think games like Quake, UT, ... are so popular? At least they are not dangerous and you don't really kill anyone. It's much safer to handle this kind of gun. But still, it shows how "we" like to shoot at each other.

In Switzerland, every man who absolved his military stage actually has his own military gun at home, ammo included. And not some pistol, but a fully automatic rifle. Honest. It is surprisingly how few incidents happen, under these circumstancies. I have no good explanation of why this is so; I suppose it is a question of tradition. The military gun is "sacred" here. You never touch it, except for the annual training. The rest of the time, it is safely locked somewhere, one essential component locked somwhere else, and the ammo in a third place.
From those people who run ammok with a gun here, maybe only 5% use the military gun. The rest uses some other gun (legal or illegal).

Umm Xeon. My father is a retired DC police officer of 27 years. I was taught to respect firearms at a very early age. You will never get rid of firearms. I could manufacture a firearm if I wanted too out of materials. What is your point? If you want to harm someone you will. Ban all guns? Ok, then ban cars, ban alcohol (they kill people), ban bows. Ban knives (only use plastic spoorks). Ban all matierals that can manufacture such devices. Ban carbon dioxide (it's harmful). Ban fire.
You getting the point? People that are so dead to right against firearms live in a fairy world :) Come back to reality. I have the right to defend myself and my fellow citizens. End of story.

Typical answer of people who have guns. :D:D
The difference between guns and all the other examples you have given is that the main and only purpose of a gun, if you use it, is finally to hurt people.
All other examples are thing that have other purposes, but may be used as well to hurt people.
Live a happy and safe life then!

Didn't say I currently owned a gun ;) And my point was to show that a gun is only one means to harm individual(s). And your wrong about usefulness. Guns are used for hunting which in some places even in states/countries is a matter of survival for those that are in need. Case in point. I lived/worked in Montana for 2 years. And some people that live in that state hunt to put food on the table.

Shotguns and rifles are used for hunting. Hand guns are used for concealing and shooting people.
I have a rifle for hunting. I would never think of getting a hand gun.
But I agree "If you want to harm someone you will."
But hand guns amke it easier.
Mick
October 16th, 2002, 11:06 AM
Yea let me make it real clear on my stand on this.
1. Handguns - I don't see a use for them (other than police/armed forces), I owned 1 at one time but no longer do.
2. Assualt guns - I REALLY don't see a use for them other than armed forces/police.
3. Semi-automatic rifles and shotguns - I think I have a right to own one for hunting purposes. I use to hunt when I was younger I enjoyed it. I no-longer do. I don't think people have to right to take that away from those that still do hunt.
But again we could have no guns, and this clown(s) would be running around putting pipe bombs in gas stations or public places. If someone is unstable they _will_ find a way to do the damage they are seeking to do.
And to any veggies out there lets not make this a meat versus veggie debate :) I was only commenting on the serial killer not on the means he uses to kill. Now I know how alot of other people around the world in certain countries feel when they are bombed daily or shoot at daily. And I'm not just talking about israel just to be clear on that. I think both sides are wacked in that situation.

Yeah, yeah. I know. We all need to protect ourselves and our love ones, but like what Elrond says, guns would make tragedies easier and more prone to happen.
In Singapore, getting a gun is near to impossible. Even the gangsters here don't have guns. The only ones that have guns here is the cops and the soldiers, but even then, they return their guns back to their stations at the end of the day.
A country without guns is much safer to live in.
Singapore has lots of flaws and negatives parts in it's government's way of governing the folks, but the one good part I like in Singapore is that it's very very very impossible to own a gun.
And yeah! Getting a gun to defend yourself and your fellow citizens! That's true, I know. But this kinda scenarios and thinkings ONLY happens in an imaginary, IDEAL world. In the real world, things don't happen in the order/way you want them to..
Maybe you're a good guy, Mick! :)
But look : not everyone in the USA is like you. Look at that Columbia(in Colarado, USA) shooting incident where 2 students charge into a school with 2 large shot-guns killing more than 12 students and injuring lots of others. Assuming it's very very very impossible to get guns in the US. Such things wouldn't even happen!
Whenever there's power, people tend to abuse it. Even cops themselves have records of using guns to do bad things. I read up in a newspaper sometime ago that a cop in the US used a gun to force a victim into hot sex. :D
Knives are dangerous, but they're nothing compared to guns.
Consider the recent sniper incident in Washington. Even an FBI intelligence analyst got shot!
It's all about guns, Mick!
A high-ranking US official has said before, "Power is good, but only in the hands of those who want peace."
That's it, Mick! Even though you don't have a gun now, your mind is thinking of guns and making them.
I can assure you that if I were beside you while I'm saying all these, u would go to the nearest gun shop and get a pistol and shoot me dead. That's why, people with guns or guns-notions are all potential criminals. Uggghhh.......  :)

*heh* umm no, I'm a pretty hard guy to make angry. I just really don't care *heh* ;) Why get all flustered about someone else's opinion. That's what it is an opinion and YOU have the right to have it. I don't have a right to force you to change it. I can only present my side and my opinion. i DETEST sporks. Sure, they're useful, even clever, but they aren't entirely effective as spoons because of the prongs, and they aren't entirely effective as forks because of the dip. How hard can it be to put down your knife and pick up your spoon when you want to use it? It's much more elegant, visually pleasing, and appropriate. (At least in my country, the spoons are on the same side as the knives, but when I set the table all the silverware just ends up wherever it lands when I throw it down)

I hope you ve seen the movie "Falling Down" (that with Michaeli Douglas) - it brilliantly describes the dangerous kind of freedom and power a person may obtain by having access to weapons in US. Personally i think ALL weapons should be forbidden, no matter the reason be for obtaining them.
Take the analogy in commerical flight - all planes have at least one pistol on board for acute reasons, yet no passanger is of course allowed to bring his own. This totally breaches the security on board that was set on the ground. Besides, there is not a single reason (and i mean EVER EVER EVER) to shoot unarmed man during the flight. This is an analogy with a country where access to weapons is loosen. If one has a gun, then others need one too to protect them. Yet noone thinks that if nobody has access to weapons nobody needs them anyway. Its an utopical thought, but we just have to have naive faith in it (like faith in God) otherwise weapons will sadly accompany us to the future (and far one too). And i dont mean US only, i know that some countries are even worse (South Africa ? Mexico ?) which enforce even stronger policies regarding weapons :(

You should have been producing movies like Grumpy Old Men, Mr Bean, or simply settled for a cartoon like Good Pigeons ;) I'm not sure what you mean with this? And I've never seen Good Pigeons. Dead Pigeons yes, when my cat came show me one. I guess a good pigeon is a dead pigeon. :D

Aye~ Simon! U really should go be a grumpy old man like what Platinum pal says! The Belgium governemt can pay you US$500 per month for choosing such a profession.
Also, Platinum and I ain't the same person.
Now, let's have a bet, Simon. If he and I are the same person, then I'll go naked and run around everywhere.
Also, I'll let you do whatever you want to me.
If you lose, you've to sign an agreement that you'll not possess any nuclear arms again, and that you'll hand your nuclear arms to George W. Bush and contribut them further to the US military.
Also, you're suppose to treat me, Amn and Platinum Plus to 10 plates of chicken chop each day.

Apparently weirdoness is more widespread than I thought and goes accompanied by some strange kind of uniformity. :D And why do you keep calling me a grumpy old man, both of you? And by the way, the Belgian government is paying me 1350$ per month for being a grumpy old man. :) Tax free by the way. Although I think I'm underpaid, I should go working for the industry, but currently, despite of the mismanagement, I still like it here.

Nay, Simon! The thing is : GREAT minds think alike. I'm a great guy, and Platinum is a noble one. We tend to think the same way cos' we're both legendary people. Besides, u need more than 1 person to take down the Beast. :D
As for being a grumpy old man, that's cos' you can be mean and hostile and nasty, Simon!
Compared your posts and your style of speech to great guys like Amn, and u seem kinda cold and such.
Please, Simon.....do more good deeds instead of chanting hellish words every nanosecond, please? For example, you can help that old lady to carry her bags up her car, or maybe you can offer to help the Belgium police by becoming a bait for kidnappers. That way, they can get the bad guys faster.
Or if you prefer, u can patrol the Belgium streets at night with your super-hero uniform(with '666' on your chest) checking if anything naughty is going on.
Just because you have the Power of the Great Beast doesn't mean you gotta be evil. Get it?

As for being a grumpy old man, that's cos' you can be mean and hostile and nasty, Simon! Do you mean with "mean and hostile and nasty" coming up with a reply to tease you and provoke you a little bit? My poor Xeon, you ain't seen nothing yet. I have 22 years of experience, for some reason the same age as my brother. :D Or if you prefer, u can patrol the Belgium streets at night with your super-hero uniform(with '666' on your chest) checking if anything naughty is going on. Hmm...Good idea that superhero stuff. The costume would need to be reflective and if possible even emitting a lot of light, because two days ago I got hit by a car at night while my lights were burning. That would be a lousy end for a superhero, getting run over by a car. :D

How can we know for sure what this code does, since you just made up a language to write it in? For all we know, it's really an obscure reference to some code in another place to begin phase 2 of your world domination scheme, hijacking the ISS. Of course, it could be anything at all. Maybe you transfered US$1 billion from Bill Gate's account to your local orphanage, I'm sure he wouldn't notice such a small amount missing.

Here's my theory: he's one of those computer programs written by a computer program. Of course, he makes barely enough money to supply the electricity he needs to run... CodeGuru is just a meddling hobby of his. Soon there will be minions like him.

Probably he would! Once, in 1998, Bill had a fortune at around US$ 91 billion dollars! Serious!
But after the anti-trust battle in 1998 - 2001, his fortune dropped from US$91 billion to US$ 85 billion , then to US$ 64 billion, and then to US$ 45 billion, and now, he's valued only at US$ 22 billion, I believe. Larry Ellison's fortune also dipped.
Here's my theory: he's one of those computer programs written by a computer program. Of course, he makes barely enough money to supply the electricity he needs to run... CodeGuru is just a meddling hobby of his. Soon there will be minions like him.
Totally logical. That explains why he doesn't seem to have any trouble and such in the world. He posts 101% true crap all the time, and since he posts occasionally in the VB forum, he must have been written by the VB IDE. :):D:)
