I am interested in learning the VB language, what is the standard compiler that goes with that language, and how do I get it?

The standard compiler+IDE is here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbasic/), and you can find discounted price for students (check http://msdnaa.net ) as far as I know.
Also, if you need only the compiler (command-line), then it comes at no charge with the .NET Platform SDK (http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?url=/downloads/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/001/829/msdncompositedoc.xml).
