What is developer's views of where the software development industry is headed in relation to Unix/Linus and Microsoft. Several people I know who are developing and are using Linux/Unix feel Microsoft is on it's way out. My own feelings is that we are just seeing the same thing that happened in the Auto industry. What does everyone else think?

Microsoft is infact has gone stronger from its earlier position on the development platform with .NET.

With the kind of favourable response that .NET has received from several quarters (excluding Sun,IBM in this context), there's no question of "Microsoft on its way out" when it comes to Development Platforms.

Having said that, its a question of (J2EE <---> .NET) now, rather than old Linux/Windows-platforms debate.

Then by your statement"Microsoft on its way out" but also you line of favorable reviews of .NET, I don't understand what you are trying to say? Is Linux going to replace MS or what?
