From what I've gathered, before there was an Embedded Tools, there was an Embedded Toolkit that acted as a plugin for Visual C++ 5/6.

The product developed to a point where it seperated and became it's own entity -- more or less -- and thus EVB and EVC 3.0 were born.

EVC 4.0 is available now, but it's based on the .NET platform, and is also available as a plugin to Visual Studio .NET -- but from my testing, is unstable and unuseful.

Wow! -- I am glad I did not spend the $$$ for it.

EVC 4.0 .NET -- at least the standalone version, anyway -- is available for free download from the microsoft website, although it's not particuarly easy to find. If anyone tries it and has more luck with it, let us know!
