My name is A.J. and I am developing a 3-Dimensional roleplaying adventure game. All I can say for now is, that it will be way different from the ones currently in the market and I assure you: It is NOT another lousy Diablo clone. Anyway, our project has grown to be so big, that we could use any talented people but especially C++ programmers.
We could use people who are familiar with file format tweaking / programming and Visual C++ with DirectX 8. As you guessed, we use mainly Visual C++ 6.0 as our development environment and DirectX 8.0 with it.
Any people interested in this kind of project, please contact me as soon as possible. WeŽll be happy to get new people and it does not actually matter if you are not a 150 % expert. We all learn this by doing stuff ;-)

Hey there! Well, I am not an expert in C++ by any means, but I know a little.
The good news: I have taken a C/C++ class (as part of the degree I have), and I am currently programming in Java.
The bad news: I know nothing about graphics programming. I can program just about everything except graphics.
I would be interested in helping out anyway I can, so if you want to know more email me at coreylivermore@excite.com

AJ,
E-mail me and give me some info, like team size, what developping worksation is needed.
This project might be fun, even if I'm more an OpenGL guy than DirectX.
About DirectX8, do we need Ge-Force3?

Greets from team DiMTEX Alexei!
You are very welcome to join the team. We need any programmers, who can get the job done decently. I will first tell you the names and specs on us.
We are a rather small and definitely newbie team, who want to create a way cool and fun RPG called Progeny. Our primary goal is to finish the game and we are trying to get ourselves a publisher when we're done. However, at this point, the project seems to be something like the OpenSource projects of today. We have members across the world, who do this just because this is fun. Naturally, if we can publish our game, I'll make sure that each of the team members gets his appropriate credit and payment from his contributions to the game.
Next, I'd like to present you our current REGULAR staff members:
Me, A.J. (17)am the head of the project. I've assumed the position of Lead Programmer too, but I don't consider myself skilled enough for that position. I have done most of the engine experimentals so far as well as most of the designs and art. The idea to Progeny originated from my twisted mind ;)
Next, my side-kick Tommy (16), who has been a great help to me with all his ideas and additional work.
Jonathan, 16, who is our main art dude, has been making the 3D art and our yet-to-be-finished web site.
You seem to have some experience so you would make a valuable addition to our team.
We will be utilizing VisualC++ 6.0 with DirectX 8.0 for this project. I personally would preferred OpenGL, but since we are beginners, it's not too good to try too much on first time. Anyway, Progeny will be made using the newest technologies.
On hardware side, I don't think that we should use all the new nasty features of DX8, like bump mapping and few others, because
a) They are F***IN nasty to code
b) The game will be so HUGE, that using all possible effects make it really sluggish and kludgy.
Our target platform will be Win9x / WinME.
You'd need the following software to join the team. A C++ compiler and the DirectX 8.0 SDK... that's all !
I don't explain anything further yet, unless you really want to join the team. My own designs are yet to be written in electronic form, so it takes a while... after all I gotta do a heap of work on the game now, and with a rather small team like this, it's gonna be a slow process. But with an additional programmer, it would be way easier.
Let me know what you think ok ? I can mail you some further details and stuff should you need some.
I look forward to hearing from you

Hey people!
I see that my post has made an impact on this board. We welcome any new programmers or art, sound people... well, actually anyone who's interested in this kind of project, may join us. When I first made the initial post, I was working alone and devising ideas. Now our team has 3 regular members and we have a team name too... DiMTEX Software.
Last month we switched from DirectX 7 to the newest DirectX 8. New problems and so on followed of course... but that's perfectly normal, after all, we're developing for windows!
Anyway, I believe the first truly working version of the engine would be done during the next few weeks. I'll be working on Progeny during my summer holidays so with a bit of luck we'll get the first working beta out somewhere around september.
I'm hoping to receive further postings from all you more or less newbie programmers in future too. After all, you never know if we can grow into a true game company.
On the code side, not much is up... I'm working on the CProgeny main application class, which currently has a million bugs, which require a heap of work. I'm hoping to solve the .x model compatibility problems as soon as possible. For now, some triangle fans are corrupted. I'm looking into this in near future. Keep up to date people!

Hi, I am a Java programmer, not exactly what you need, but you claimed that you basicly needed "any talented people." Do you need any help from Java programmers?

Greets people!
It seems this is the last time I update this thread. We will still be happy to get new part-time or permanent members, but please, don't reply to this thread anymore, instead direct all replies straight to my e-mail address. We're also taking any music enthusiasts, artists and whatsoever with us.
The new thread will soon (hopefully) be opened at http://dimtex.cjb.net/.
Any good ideas are also accepted.

Hey A.J.
My name is Mike. I'm currently working for a company as a programmer, but I'd love to help you out on the side. I have experience in C++ as well as DX8. I actually started in DX6 and I understand about your desire to maintain simplicity. I was trying to build my own game at one point, but to no avail. Trying to accomplish this task alone was a big mistake. I would like to offer my help to you as a musician /c++ /vb /DX8 /SQL7.0 /InstallShield6.1 programmer. I also have some friends who can help in the artistic area (if needed). Let me know if I can be of assistance.
