a problem of the install of windows 2000 professional

I reinstall the windows 2000 from windows 98, but after the file copy, the install process is stopped ,and the warning message is that there is unknown hardware error,and there's also some suggestion of solution,but I failed.So where is the problem in?and how to solve?

You can try "clean" install. Boot from Win2K CD.
