Hi,

My Windows 2000 (or is it the computer itself?) resets its date and time to 'January 1, 2000. 00:00' everytime I start (not on restart) my computer. I never have problem with this in my Windows 98 before. I have already set the settings in the Control Panel several times -- in fact, it's been almost a habit.

Does it have something to do with the fact that this copy -- though original and registered, was given to me by my brother when he transferred to Win XP?

Please shed lights on this. Thanks.

Aio

Wow! Aio! what kinda computer do you have! It sounds old!

This sounds like you got a nasty y2k bug! Send me more details on the motherboard and i might be able to help.

Sounds like your CMOS battery is dead.

Hi Rowan,

I am not good at opening CPUs.

Hi Kdr Kane,

Thanks. Isn't it that if CMOS battery is dead, Setup information (like hard disk information) are also lost? Mine is not -- only the time/date.

Thanks for the info.

All i need is the brand of mother board and its type.

resets its date and time to 'January 1, 2000. 00:00' everytime I start (not on restart) my computer

This is caused because the bios only loads data into mem in the bootup proc of the computer.

aio,

You would lose the hard drive configuration if it was entered. However, most modern BIOSes are set to autodetect on startup.

If you only lose the time and date when the power switch is off, it's the CMOS battery. The time and date would not need to be corrected if the computer is simply restarted without powering off because power was still on.
