windows 2000 question - thanks

Before installing the Windows 2000, I was using Windows 98 and having a workgroup as a LAN. I am using coaxial cable for the networking.

I just installed Windows 2000 server and tried to map the drive to another computer so that I can read and write the files on other computer. But I could not make it. Please tell me how to do it. thanks.

Hi,

On the desktop, U may find an icon on windows 2000 server..

"My Network Place" right click it and select "MAP NETWORK DRIVE" and now select the required drive from the required system on LAN and click ok..

U r done with it...

but before that ensure that U can find other systems on LAN.

Map drive failed. that's why I posted my question.
I couldn't find other systems on LAN (ping other system failed, but ping own system is ok). when I tried to map drive, i got error msg "network \\desk\c could not be found" (I created a user account called 'desk' which is the name of other computer and systems are all shared).

my other system is windows 98. before the host (main system) was windows 98 and I used coaxial cable and netBeui (both systems) and I didn't have any problem of mapping drive. I didn't do anything about netBeui on windows 2000 because I don't know how to do it. Is it the problem? thanks again for your help.

You need to have NetBeui on the machine to see other machines/Servers on the domain/Workgroup.

If you want to install netbeui, go to the network and Dial-up Connections in Control Panel. Where you see the LAN connection, right click to get the properties.

On the screen you get, click on "Install", select "protocol" from the list you get, If netbeui does not come into sight, select "Microsoft" and on the right hand side you will see NetBeui.
