I have windows 98 running on my Dell laptop and have tried to install windows 2000 as a secondary OS. The installation always seems to hang when it gets to the point when it is checking for devices. The screen goes blank and stays blank. If I abort the install [as I have no choice], on booting back up, the windows 2000 installation starts over only to fail at the same point. The only way I got windows 98 to boot was by using an emergency boot disk and then restoring the old system files to remove the dual boot screen [at least for boot up as I believe some files created by the attemped installation haven't been removed].
If anyone knows what the problem might be and can advise, I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
