An application that our group wrote creates binary files. We have had no problems using these files in Windows NT 4.0 SP4 and SP6a. However we have found that when the file is accessed by Windows 2000 by the Windows Explorer that Windows reboots. Even when the cursor is paused over the file name and the tool tip window should appear it causes Windows 2000 to reboot.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Does anyone know how to notify Microsoft of such a potential bug?

It seems to be the combination of "255 90" written in sequence in a binary format multiple times (unknown how many times at this point) that causes the reboot. Any ideas anyone?
