This has to do woth NT but not nt-to-2000. Please tell me where I should have posted. I am at edwardtisdale@hotmail.com
I have both NT and 98 on my computer and my modem is connected to port com4. In 98 it works fine, but in NT I don't get the option between ports and it keeps trying to connect to my modem through com1. I reinstalled the driver and everything. Right where it asks which port to install to it does not show port com4. I think this is because once 98 connected to it, NT can't see it. What can I

Is your modem a PCI internal modem?

If so, you need to install the HCF PnP driver. This should be on the modem's CD as its Windows NT setup file.

Do not add the the modem's .inf file to the Windows driver database manually if the modem is PnP! If you do this with a PnP PCI modem it will copy the information file into a directory used to define the non-PnP modems and the modem setup will fail.

The setup file will add a PnP PCI IRQ handler to NT and link the modem to it using a virtual COM port (usually 4 or 5).

Let me know what kind of modem it is (manufacturer and model number) and I can probably give you specific instructions.
