I was thinking... With all the .net stuff is it worth getting a cert in regular c++/vb , should I continue learning c++/vb?

If you are really interested in VB, I'd suggest getting to VB.NET and then getting one of the new (is it launched yet??) Microsoft's MCSD with VB.NET specialization.
Learning pure C++ (and not Visual C++.NET) is beneficial any day. So don't lose track on it.
