Is ATL really being used?

I need to understand if ATL in general in alive and kicking as far as software development industry is concerned or are there other options preferred.

We are programming using ATL a lot and this isn't surprising because programming COM without ATL is quite more difficult and error susceptible.

ATL is really alive. Without it, programmers in most companies would have to work at least 3x more to earn the same amount of money. :p
