I'm fairly new to programming, although i have been interested in it for years. I am not a complete newb and know variables, functions etc. and can get through about half a basic book.

I was wondering if anyone could plz tell me some of the better C/C++ books out there to learn from, Or some really good sites. I'm mainly interested in game programming.

Thx for your help, Nathaniel Watt.

To learn the C++ basics, the "Thinking in..." series of books written by Bruce Eckel seems to be pretty good. It's available for free at Bruce Eckel's website: http://www.mindview.net/Books.

Concerning games programming, there are multiple sites specialized on that topic. Try http://www.flipcode.com/, for example.

For game programming, anything with Andre LaMothe's name on it is most likely going to be pretty good.

Well, you'll get most resources here and there - I'd suggest you not to get into more books than you can - just concentrate on 1 or 2 books initially and completely read them - understand them.

Furthermore, don't hesitate to discuss out any new things you learn. For example, you can post new ideas, algorithms you learn here and discuss them with fellow members. It helps a lot in the long run.

Just my 2 cents. :)
