Good afternoon all you developers out there! I am looking for a few developers' opinions on the Java programming language. More specifically, I need the following questions answered:

Is Java a language that you would use to write non-Internet business applications?
Would Java be your language of choice for writing business applications?
If you could choose from the following 2 operating systems for a business environment, which one would you choose and why: Solaris/Unix, Windows.

For all those that wish to respond, please email me at clivermore@mcofc.com

According to order of your questions:
1)Yes
2)Yes
3)As a server, Solarix/Unix and as an ordinary PC for common people, Windows.

I would like to make (not write) business applications
with Magic or Clarion. For data analysis and prototyping I would
like to use awk.

1) No
2) No
3) Windows

All for the same reason - the biggest cost in any business software project is the development staff. I find that VB developers are cheaper and more productive than any other background so I go with that...which forces my hand on the OS side.
