drawing algorithm

Hello!

I need a algorithm for drawing a graph! This is a rooted tree graph. On the p is main node which has children and they has children ... I allready have a structure, all I need is an algorithm to calculate the position of a each node. Tree should be optimized, (small as posible). Any help would be very aprichiated. If you ve it all know where to find it, please help!
