I am a newbie to MFC (I've learned most of C++, but don't know much about MFC.) And I am proficient in VB6 and Java 2. I am in search of a good and cheap (under $30 US, I'm a student and don't have much cash) tutorial on MFC. I have seen Sams' Teach yourself MFC In 24 Hours in my local bookstore and wanted to know if it was any good. Thank you, Victor.

I think that the <<Programming Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0>> (David J. Kruglinski..., Microsoft Press) is a good book.

Best Regards !

Check out using Visual C++ 4.2.

Pretty good book. Explains the basics, graphics, internet programming and everything you need for a start.

It is also available online for free from MacMillan publishing. (www.mcp.com or something...)

"The MFC Answer Book" by Eugene Kain is worth looking at. It's arranged in the style of a FAQ book - you can look at quite a few on-line samples from the book. I did and had no hesitation in buying it straight away.

Probably a bit more than $30, but my favorite is MFC Programming by Alan Feuer. Much better for learning MFC (after you've had a little exposure, like doing the Scribble tutorial).

Good luck,
Brad

My favorite is "Inside Visual C++" Fourth Edition by David J. Kruglinski. If I could have no other reference or learning book this is my choice. List price is $49.99, published by Microsoft Press in 1997, ISBN 1-57231-565-2

Side note: Kruglinski died before this went to press so this might be the last from him unless something else was in the pipeline. The fourth edition was on VC++ 5.0 but applies fully to VC++ 6.0 . Earlier additions are not as currently useful since a lot was changed between VC++ 4 and 5
