I've been hearing that Microsoft is no longer going to be giving support to Visual C++. That there are not going to be more versions of Visual C++, and instead are going to concentrate on Visual Basic. Has anyone heard this? Is this true?

Would love to know where this rumor came from... Sun?

The beauty about choosing MFC and ATL to focus on, is the fact that you're at least making progress in generic C++ knowledge, especially with specific stuff like templates. So if MS somehow goes away, all is not lost. You're still learning.
(still, that would suck .. all these MFC and ATL books I'm buying)

It sure is true.... and the world will end in the millenium. Also the moon is really made of Swiss cheese. Elvis is alive.

We also have some other good C/C++ IDE ,
Borland C builder, Metrowerks' CodeWarrior...
Microsoft is not the god. We can live
without it. Though Microsoft is famous for its
OS and software, on the other hand it is a rather
busy bug catcher. Perhaps it is the reason that
Microsoft give up C/C++ to put itself to rather
easy but useless VB.

QUESTION:
If you get a solid grasp on ATL, which is closer to being generic C++ than MFC, wouldn't that be usable on any other IDE? We're talking about just adding the .h files, and wa-la, right?
