I am interested what are the salaries of software professionals around the world. I am also interested in division of labour.

I am interested in estimated salary for each group of people for 2, 5 and 7 years of industry experience:

1. Coder

A person who writes code from UML graphs or by instruction from a chief programmer and is not able to work independently.

2. Developer

A person who writes code independently and is provided with less technical but still needs formal documentation.

3. Developer/analyst

A person who can do it's own formal documentation and analysis and needs no assistance to develop solutions.

4. Analyst and designer

A person who has a rich background in programming and does the analysis and design but does not write code (are there any such purists around?)

5. All others (*pure* project managers, testers,...)

Personally i am a 3/10/$2600 (group/years/cash)

Salary should be on per month basis and totals (brutto, gross) in

EUROS or in USD.

The survey is an excellent idea. I would do it but I am already envolved with

another pet project (a "RAD" tool). :-) Volunteers?

My data: Slovenia, 4000 DEM/month, 3 years, programmer/analyst, (VB, MS SQL, VC++)

The web page idea is good. You could even take it as far as making a SQL backed web site which allows custom queries. For instance, you could get the average salary of a VC++ coder and specify only those coders with C, C++, VB, and SQL experience... Maybe it could even go so far as having an Activex control to graph out years of experience vs salary...

Look here.

http://www.cehandbook.com/

And here.

http://www.realrates.com/

These pages have some other links.

The thing you are going to find is that there is a *huge* variation in rates even within

jobs that are described as being nearly identical. Contract vs regular employee

makes a big difference as well. (The theory is, the contract staff take more risk,

and make more of an effort to keep up to date, than do full time employee, and

the full time employee gets more benefits like pension, health plan, office, etc.)

Just as an example: the realrates site has C++ coders with 5 years experience

making from $25/hour to $125 per hour.

Your negotiation skills are going to play a big part in what you earn in this industry.

It is probably worthwhile for anybody in this industry to take a course or two in

interpersonal skills. Many community colleges have these courses for reasonable

prices, as evening classes.

Salaries in Romania for computer programmers:
300-800 USD/month ( netto ) depending on experience.
Compare with an average salary for the Romanian
economy of less than 100 USD.
My situation 3/3.5/700( group/ years/ $month )

Hi,

group 3 - 6 years - gross monthly income $3300

Out of taxes, it means net monthly income of $2000
Experience in embedded system, advanced control system and in partecipate in design and develop phases of complex projects.

I don't know for sure the average gross monthly salary in Italy. It should be something about $1500. When I worked as a freelancer I got more or less the same hour rate, at the end of the day.

Post a statistic summary, when you are done, please, but normalize against life cost.

In India , the average salaries are :

Programmer/Developer: 150$-1000$
Analysts : 250$-1500$

about 10% get cars from the workplace.
about 25% are happy from their workplace.
avg. work time in one company is ~2 years.

Money in software is quite good ;) ( much better than that in other industries ???!!!)

India's avg. salary stands in ~40$ per month

A new car costs here about 5,000$-20000$ ( Suzuki swift being the most popular model)
A good house (2-3 rooms) in a decent place - over 25,000$ where as an apartment in a cheap place 10,000$

All figures are approximate

Hi!
Here a fresh graduate out of a reasonably good Engg. College can expect 8000-15,000 Rupees a month.(~190$ to 360 $)
And for a 2/4 years experienced s/w professional it is around 500$.
And it can go up to anything like 2000$ per month for Consultant / PM(ProjectManager) etc.
Yes...People at higher posts get good incentives on completion of a project and other occasions.

From Croatia (Hrvatska):
(rates per month)

Coder ... $350-$500 netto ($600-$800 brutto) per month
(local currency: 2500-4000 kn netto)

Developer ... $500-$900 netto ($800-$1500 brutto) per month
(local currency: 4000-7000 kn netto)

Developer/Analyst+ ... $900-$1500+ netto ($1500-$2400+ brutto)
(local currency: 7000-12000+ kn netto)

Me, currently:
- Developer/analyst, 3 years, $1100 netto ($1800 brutto) per month
(or 2200 DEM netto, 3500 DEM brutto, or 8800kn netto)
(with 6+ years total of productive programming)

My previous job (a weeek ago, in one bank :), working via
contract as a student:
- Coder/Developer (but having analyst experience also)
$400 netto ($650 brutto) per month

Life cost:
- 1-room apartment (flat) - $200 per month
(in Zagreb, capital of Croatia - $70-$150 in other cities)
- 2-room apartment - $300 per month
- food - $100-$200 per month
- looks like car (Yugo & similar :-) - $1000-$1500
- old car (Renault, Peugeot, Opel) - $3000-$6000
- new car (Ford Escort, Accent Hyundai, Pegueot, VW) - $10000+

Also, to consider:
- average salary in Croatia = $400 netto ($640 brutto)
(so, average IT salary is atleast x 2)
- the last salary range I've mentioned is usually in
companies that are working for foreign partner, or
in professional IT oriented companies
- in companies that are not IT oriented, but are having
just IT departments, Developer/Analysts are usually
paid as (only) Developers or even Coders..
