I looked for new books but they are just visual c++ 6.0 with a paragraph or two tacked on the end.
I then went to MSDN and every .NET overview seemed to be a dreamy flash animation of blocks showing happy users flowing into web sites built in .NET...

Aarrgh. Best that I can find are a few (two I think) articles on some new features in VC++ .NET but without screenshots of the IDE, detailed comparisons to 6.0, etc. Im still not sure what to expect.

Whats new in MFC (ok, minus a one page discussion on the whiz-bang html widget)? How efficient does CLR run? How transparent is building for CLR vs. Native?

Any links to in-depth critiques/analysis out there would be greatly appreciated!

This article is still a bit on the '.NET is great' line, but it does show some of the plus points of VC.NET:
