I have a question on the following statement found on the download page for .NET, http://msdn.microsoft.com/net/.

"This pre-beta software should only be installed on non-production test machines. Windows® 2000 (including IIS) and Internet Explorer 5.5 are required."

Does this mean the future software development with Visual Studio .NET and the software deployment will also be limited to Windows 2000?

Thanks in advance for any response.

Hi!

I hope not!

I read than VisualStudio .NET should be available on Q4 of this year (Source: Computing Canada Vol26, Issue 16, Page 22)

We might be able to install a beta version on Win9x machine by this time...

Regards!

And if you believe that, then I've got some great swamp land to sell ya' :) ! I'm on the VS .NET beta list and we don't even have the first beta yet so IMO you won't seeing that bad boy until mid to late next year.

Hi!

My mistake! I was assuming they (The publication) were refering to Q4 2000 but I guess it is Q4 2001. Sorry about that! It was to good to be true! (I couldn't believe it!)

ychung's question remain unanswered...

Do you think we will be able to use .NET Framework on Win9x?

Do you know when the Beta version will be shipped to beta testers?

Regards!

P.S.: Who sold you that swap land in the first place? :-)

Can I install .NET framework on win98 now? If so how much RAM do I need?

Thanks

Pete

No, .NET will only deploy on Win2K machines at this point. I believe that NT 4 is next and then (possibly) Win9x
