As we reported the other day, Microsoft had initially released .NET for MSDN Professional and Universal subscribers only. We'd like to think that our phone calls and emails had something to do with this, but whatever the cause, .NET has now been released to ***EVERYONE*** on http://msdn.microsoft.com/net/.

Thanks to Christopher Thibeault for letting us know of the update on Microsoft's Web site!

Hi there!

I want to install the «.NET framework » but I read than it require three things:
- Windows 2000
- IE 5.5
- IIS 5

I don't have the IIS 5.0 and I can't find it on the microsoft website...

So where can I get it? If you have an URL it will be great...

Regards!

Its part of Windows 2000 Server Edition I believe. If you're just looking for the C# compiler, you don't need it, it runs fine on Win2K Pro for me.

in windows 2K, IIS is available on both Pro and Server. You have to add it on win2k pro, but it should be there by default on server. in either case, go to control panel - add remove progams - add remove windows components - insert the win2k cd rom and then look for IIS.

good luck,

I read in a dotnet newsletter that the beta1 .NET platform will support NT4, no mention of Win9x though. the beta is targeted for release this fall.
