onBlur functions???

Hi, I have a form in my asp page and a field in that form I input numbers into... now I want to take what I put in that field and take it to a function where I read something from a database... I am doing this "onBlur = "NameOfBank(this);"" ... and this function is declared in the code on the same page... but I get an error like - Object reqiuerd , so it´s like the function is not found.. can anyone help me with this please? ps. I am using JavaScript
