User authentication

Hi there,
I've a intranet site where I want to authenticate
the user when he hits the site. I can do that by
disallowing the anonymous login. But then how
do I retrive which user has logged in & what group
does he belong to ?

Just a suggestion here

maybe u can include a new coloum name it.... then use it as some sort of counter... so tat when the user access .. u increment the field by 1 so tat u know how many times he /she hit the site
