Open A Socket in ASP

I am trying to find out how to open a socket from an asp on my homepage so that I can write a site that will let me (and others until I find it's getting abused) check POP3 email. I've found all the POP3 commands for this, but finding out how to open and manipulate a connection from my server to the mail server is proving itself more difficult.

use the System.Net.Sockets class to open socket connections ...
