Is C# is the extension of VC++??

C# is the next generation of C++ in the same way that C++ was the next step for C.

It's seems that MS has stolen a lot from java. This step is logical after MS can't conquering Java
So you can't say C# is the next step of c++. You can say c# is a weapon against Sun and Jave

I don't fink so. Sun's Java is based on UNIX. C# is based on MFC. How can it be a weapon against SUN? Before C#, to write a Java program for UNIX platform you used SUN's Java and you'll use it after releasing of C# as well.

Well, Sun wasn't very original with Java either! It's not very clear that C# is intended to be a weapon against Sun or Java either. C# seems to be targeted to Microsoft developers (VB, VC++ and VJ++). I don't think it'll lure any significant amount of developers from the Java camps.

From the sounds of it, C# seems to be the meeting place for VB and C++ developers. I dont see any reason why this would take over Java. Now if this turns out to be more powerful(better) than Java, well then so be it. Only time will tell.

I believe you're correct but only if you're talking about the Windows platforms (as if the others matter much :-).

I see it more as a replacement for Microsoft's Java with added support for COM.

Whatever it is its gotta be better than that pile of crap visual c++ 6.0 or that toy basic. Competition from Java has forced Microsoft to try to improve its development stuff. These guys won't do anything unless they have to.

LOL: "C# is the next generation of C++" You *are* joking, aren't you?

I take it you're not on the alpha or at the PDC. All the new stuff (e.g., ADO+, WinForms, MSXML 3.0, etc.) is being done in VB7 or C#. C# is going to supercede C++. However, just as C++ didn't completely replace C, there will be applications still written in C++. They will just become fewer and fewer.

If you're thinking in a narrow Windows mindset, possibly. However, I don't believe that Microsoft will prevent C++ programmers from accessing new Windows technologies such as ADO+. Okay, they may push C# as the way to go, the same way they've pushed/encouraged VB as the way to go to write Windows front-ends.

I was thinking more of the language and the wider programming world outside Windows. No way on Earth is C# the next generation of C++. Can you do generic programming in it? Can you write for embedded/portable devices in it (not just CE/PocketPC)? Can you write operating systems in it? Can you write middleware for Unix servers in it? No, No, No and No again. Maybe in the future if C# does become a cross-platform, non-proprietary, and fully general-purpose language. A big maybe, IMHO

I'm still the same opinion. Nothing in the near future will be replace C++. Maybe microsoft is thinking about replacing their own enhancement of ANSI C++, called Visual C++ with C#, but it will never replace ANSI C++. AFAIK C# is only a language which should replace microsofts' dependencies on Suns' Java programming language since their own implementation of JAVA (Visual J+) failed.

C# is nothing else than another proprietary language only useful to build application for microsoft operating systems environment...

And you know...where do you wanna go TOMORROW :-)))

I'm not looking for ratings but they'll tell me how useful my help is.

C# is not based on MFC. Maybe peoples who want to talk about new tech. stuffs should attend PDC and others accurate sources of information. Most of the comment a read here are completely inaccurate and only based on personal emotional issues. It seems to me these peoples are very insecure about new stuffs and their careers.

Well, go to the new microsoft site and laugh...

The next generation of technology is right...
