Executing exe on client machine

Hi all,
I have a small problem.

I need a web page which has a button , and when the web page is loaded on the client machine and the button is clicked by the user an exe should be executed from the client machine which will be located on a fixed path.

I want to do this without using the windows script activex control.

Is it possible in any way.
