Windows 8 for Developers: Microsoft Build

Microsoft has started unveiling the details of Windows 8! This includes a video demoing some of the features. I’ve embedded the YouTube video showing some of the features at the end of this blog entry.

In addition to showing off more of the Windows 8 features and interface, Microsoft also officially named this fall’s developer conference. It is not a Microsoft PDC as some speculated, nor has it been named Windows Developer Conference as others guessed. Rather, Microsoft has tried to go a bit more trendy and has dubbed the conference BUILD, similar to the name MIX used for the designer conference in the spring.

Microsoft is promising a deep dive into the future of Windows at Build conference taking place in Anaheim, California on September 13th through the 16th of this year. Will the dive go deep? With indications that the interfaces for Windows 8 can be developed using standards including HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS there seems no reason why they can’t go deep. In fact, if you want to get a jump start on these technologies, you should check out our HTML5 Development Center on HTMLGoodies. It contains a number of great HTML5 articles and is growing rapidly.

Will the new Build Windows conference be a big success? Will Windows 8 take off? Time will tell. In the mean time, here is that YouTube video I mentioned:
