This Week's Topics

Comments from the Editor

It seems like there has been a bit of a damper on the developer community as a whole the past few weeks. While it has seemed near the end of 2008 that the economical issues had not greatly impacted the need for developers, these past few weeks has seen a bit of a damper as layoffs begin to hit deeper into areas of IT.

I am a director of our local .NET group that meets monthly. Our January meeting was the first one where the recruiters either didn't show up or where they stayed quietly out of the way. When recruiters don't show up to a gathering of over one hundred prime targets, you know something is happening in the industry that is not good.

At Codeguru and at Jupitermedia; however, 2009 is expected to be a banner year. In 2008 we continued to grow and ended December with numbers higher than the prior year. I expect the trend for growth to continue through 2009 as we work to bring even better focus on Codeguru.

Related to that, I'm also looking to get a few regular contributors on Codeguru. We are always looking for you to submit articles when you can, but short of that, we're looking for a few people who can commit to contributing a new article on a regular basis. Look for new stuff on the site regularly!

Until next week...
