Officially Launched

Today can be pegged as the official launch day for Windows Vista, Exchange 2007, and Windows Office System 2007.

If this seems somewhat anti-climatic, it could be a result of these products being in the works and in the press for years. Not only that, many of the original features of Windows Vista never managed to make it to the launch event—features such as a unified file structure (WinFS) in Windows Vista.

Regardless of what did and didn't make it, the products are golden and are now the new "current editions." Over the coming weeks and months, these products will become mainstream as they begin replacing the older versions on new PCs and elsewhere.

The new editions bring in a number of new features that will have an impact on you as a developer. Just a few of the things you should be aware of include the new security items, User Account Control (UAC), new controls, support for transparency, changes in common dialogs, improved user accessibility features, and much more.

InternetNews.com had a person report on the launch event that occurred today. You can find his report here.

If you've not already looked at Vista and tried to run your applications on it, now might be the time. Speaking of time—time will tell whether this is really a "A New Day for Business," as billed by Microsoft.
