It is official, Release Candidate 1 for Windows Vista is now out there! Of
course, many people were yelling for a beta 3; however, that is obviously not
going to happen. Actually, it is happening, it is just that the beta 3 is begin
called a release candidate! Of course, that is just my opinion.Vista RC1 is
going to be available on MSDN and Microsoft has stated that there will be a wide
release of this pre-release software.

I’ve been working with Vista for a while now and I highly recommend that as a
developer you take a look at it. You are going to find that there are some
differences in how things are presented and how some dialogs work — such as the
“Save As” dialog. You’ll also find that the way Microsoft uses toolbars and
menus changes a little bit. In many cases menus are initially hidden in
favor of toolbars. While a lot of this may not impact your coding at all, it
will impact the look and feel of your applications. I always recommend knowing
what is coming. Vista is coming — like it or not…..

In case you missed it last week, Microsoft also announced the pricing for
Vista. In fact, Amazon.com has posted prices and is now taking pre-orders. You
can find more in my announcement on the Codeguru site:

Until next week…
