If you are going to buy a house, chances are you would want to avoid buying from the Bluth family. After three years, the unfortunate Bluth family was bumped off of the Fox network and into television history.

If you aren't familiar with Michael Bluth and his family, then you probably didn't watch "Arrested Development" on Fox. This sitcom lasted just fifty-three episodes over three years, but during that time it was actually an award-winning show and was critically acclaimed.

If you watched a single episode, you were likely to find it to be the stupidest thing you ever saw. If you continued to watch, you were likely to find that there was reason to the madness and that the dysfunctional Bluth family actually lead to a lot of interesting situations that made for excellent comedy. Like finding rhythm in a Blue Man Group performance, there was great rhythm in this series.

Why do I mention Arrested Development and the Bluth family? I mention it because good television no longer dies; rather, it goes into perpetual re-runs. Actually, that was the way it worked in the past. Now, good television never dies; it moves to the Internet.

Fox Entertainment Group is working to change the syndication game by shifting the series to other forms of rich media. MSN has licensed the series for syndication on their MSN portal. As such, you can expect to see all the episodes of Arrested Development streamed on MSN Video and available on demand at no cost to MSN customers. This syndication should be an interesting beginning to opportunities with old television content. Not only will MSN be able to stream the show, but they should be able to create other services around the community that is interested in a show. In the case of Arrested Development, there are a lot of die-hard fans that might just make for an interesting online community.

... The cost of a beta - about $1.50 (US)

Microsoft has made an interesting change. To date about 3 million copies of the Office 2007 beta having been downloaded, Microsoft's bandwidth usage is getting to the point that it is noticeable to even a billion dollar company. The Office 2007 beta is larger than half a gigabyte, so three million downloads is a lot of bits to cover.

Starting tomorrow, Microsoft is adding a charge to people who want to download the Office 2007 beta for the first time. They will no longer be able to do so free. Rather, they will have to pay $1.50 (US) to cover the bandwidth. Time will tell if this becomes a standard trend for downloading all large betas from Microsoft.

In all fairness, bandwidth does cost and Microsoft should be able to pass that cost to people doing the download. Of course, some could look at this as a chance to pay for the honor of testing for Microsoft. It seems to me that if you then provide feedback to Microsoft on any issues with the beta, you should be able to charge them for the service as well...
